Living in Canterfield Creek

A wooded, late-1990s neighborhood in the Marvin area of Waxhaw, with big lots, ponds, trails and Marvin Ridge schools.

Canterfield Creek is a quiet, wooded neighborhood built mostly in the late 1990s, tucked between Tom Short Road and Joe Kerr Road in the Marvin area of Union County. Homes here carry Waxhaw mailing addresses (28173) and sit on generous lots with mature trees, ponds and walking trails. Here is what day-to-day life looks like.

Where it is

The neighborhood lies north of downtown Waxhaw, in the Marvin school area, with its streets winding between Tom Short Road and Joe Kerr Road. Street names include Belmont Lane, Streamside Lane, Rock Water Court, Pondview Court and Clear Wood Court. Most errands mean a short drive, and Providence Road South and NC-16 are the usual routes toward Ballantyne and south Charlotte.

Homes and lots

Most homes were built between about 1996 and 1999. Recent sales have been traditional two-story homes with four or five bedrooms and roughly 3,000 to 4,100 square feet. Lots are larger than in many newer neighborhoods, averaging a little over half an acre, and many homes have fenced yards and irrigation.

Homes from this era are now 25 to 30 years old, so roofs, HVAC systems, windows, decks and kitchens are often due for replacement or updating. That is exactly the kind of project where comparing notes with neighbors, and getting paid for vendor meetings, pays off.

Amenities

  • Community pool and cabana on Streamside Lane, the neighborhood's main summer gathering spot
  • Walking trails that wind through the neighborhood to open recreation fields
  • Ponds and green space that give many streets a calm, wooded feel

The pool and common areas are run by the homeowners association. Free My Neighborhood is separate from the HOA and doesn't manage any of them.

Schools

Canterfield Creek is currently assigned to Marvin Elementary, Marvin Ridge Middle and Marvin Ridge High in Union County Public Schools. Attendance zones can change, so confirm the current assignment for a specific address with Union County Public Schools.

Getting around

Like most of the Marvin and Waxhaw area, Canterfield Creek is car-oriented. Inside the neighborhood, the trails and low-traffic streets suit walking and biking. Downtown Waxhaw's Main Street restaurants and shops are a short drive south, and the shopping centers along Providence Road South cover groceries and everyday errands.
